Walnut is a suburban city in the eastern part of Los Angeles County in California. Money's Best Places to Live ranked Walnut #70 in 2009 and #57 in 2011, the highest ranking for a Californian city both years.
The greater Walnut Valley is located between the steep San Jose Hills mountain range to the north, and the gentle Puente Hills to the south. Quality housing consists of master-planned single family homes ranging in size from 1,800 to 11,200 square feet. The city hosts a highly ranked public school system - the Walnut Valley Unified School District, which has been ranked by numerous sources as one of the top public school districts in Southern California. as well as Mt. San Antonio Community College. Walnut is one of the cities with the lowest crime rates in the San Gabriel Valley.
The city covers nearly nine square miles (23 km2) and is home to hundreds of businesses. Its 2012 population was estimated at 29,661 by the United States Census Bureau. According to the 2010 United States Census, Walnut has a median household income at one of the top earning percentiles in the country at $101,250.
The history of Walnut dates back to the indigenous Tongva people.
Primary education in Walnut is generally served by the prestigious Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD), which has been ranked by numerous sources to be one of the top public school districts in all of Southern California. , which also serves parts of the city of Diamond Bar. Schools located in and around Walnut include C.J. Morris Elementary School, Collegewood Elementary School, Oswalt Academy (Formerly known as Oswalt Elementary School) (Rowland Unified School District), Vejar Elementary School, Walnut Elementary School, Westhoff Elementary School, Suzanne Middle School, Southlands Christian Schools, South Pointe Middle School, Ronald Hockwalt Academies (Formerly known as Del Paso High School), Walnut High School and Diamond Bar High School.
Portions of the western side of Walnut are also served by the Rowland Unified School District.
In addition, Mt. San Antonio College, one of the California Community Colleges, is also located in Walnut near its border with Pomona.
Shea Homes, and the United States divisions of the Filipino home video company Viva Video, Inc. and the Japanese card game company Bushiroad are based in Walnut.
According to the 2010 United States Census, Walnut had a median household income of $101,250, with 6.2% of the population living below the federal poverty line.
Ever since Year 2001, leaders of Ningbo and Walnut are paying interactive visits to each other mainly for communication on education.
The two cities became sister cities upon the approval from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Walnut Sister City Committee in the U.S.A. in 2015 after several mutual visits with deepening understanding. The Sister City Agreement with Walnut was singed during the Annual Meeting of the Walnut Sister City Committee in July 2005.
Naju,South Korea
Naju is a city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It covers a total area of 604 square kilometers and has a population of 100,000. It used to be the ancient capital of South Korea.
Naju is a fast developing agricultural and industrial city.
Of the whole industry, the first industry accounts for 51%, the second industry 16% and the third industry 33%. Major industries in Naju are petrochemical industry, food processing industry, machinery and metal products industries. Naju boasts over 200 industrial enterprises and 4 agricultural development zones. A well-known local product is the Naju Pear, which has long been cultivated along the Yeongsan River, covering 75% and 17% of the total planting area in South Jeolla Province and South Korea respectively. Naju Pears and muskmelons are popular as gifts for Lunar New Year and other holidays.
Yuyao and Naju became sister cities in June 1997 and delegations of both cities visited each other for many times ever since.
Hitachiōta
Hitachiōta, located in northeastern Ibaraki Prefecture, and bordered by Fukushima Prefecture to the north, is 120 kilometers from Tokyo and 20 kilometers from Mito, the capital city of Ibaraki Prefecture.
The city's average annual temperature is 15.4 ℃; average annual humidity 57.2%; the highest temperature 39 ℃; the lowest temperature -5℃; annual precipitation 852ml.
It covers a total area of 372.01 square kilometers (15 kilometers from the east to the west; 40 kilometers from the south to the north; height above sea level: 13m). It has a population of 62,755, 30,823 out of whom are male and 31,932 are female.
The town of Ota was established with the creation of the municipalities system on April 1, 1889. It was raised to city status on July 15, 1954. On December 1, 2004, the town of Kanasagō, and the villages of Satomi and Suifu (all from Kuji District) were merged into Hitachiōta, more than tripling its size and increasing its population by about 20,000.
Hitachiōta now has 11 kindergartens, 19 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 4 high schools; 6 hospitals, 15 general clinics and 22 dental clinics.
You are able to find many temples and scenic spots related to Tokugawa. The city boasts 3 national cultural relics, 43 provincial cultural relics and 83 municipal cultural relics.
About 300 years ago, Mr. Zhu Shunshui, born in Yuyao, paid a visit to Japan later as a Confucian scholar, and was received by Tokugawa Mitsukoku (the author of the “Great Japanese History”) as a distinguished guest and an honored teacher. Zhu Shunshui was buried in the family cemetery of Tokugawa in Hitachiōta after he died.
Friendly exchanges between Yuyao and Hitachiōta started in the 1980s, and an agreement on establishing friendly communication relationship was signed in May 1995. Later in November 1999, an agreement on making the two cities sister cities was signed.
Many mutual visits were made for exchanges on economic and cultural development thereafter. Hitachiōta helped Yuyao cultivate a specialist in flowers and a senior civil servant. A delegation with the Liberal Democrat Coalition of Ibaraki used to came to Ningbo. Okubo Tachi, the new Mayor of Hitachiōta warmly welcomed a delegation in Tokyo, then led by Wang Yongkang, Former Mayor of Yuyao. Delegations, led by Chen Weijun and Wang Dingda, Party Secretary and Vice Party Secretary of the Yuyao City, used to made visits to Hitachiōta. Mr. Watanabe Ryuichi, Former Mayor of Hitachiōta, was awarded as an Honorary Citizen of the Yuyao City in January 2008.
