Yuyao grape has a long history of cultivation, and there is a record as early as in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. By 2005, grape plantation area of the city has reached nearly ten thousand mou, with annual production of 20,000 tons and the production value exceeding RMB40 million. The number of grape varieties has increased to 34 among which there are 28 Eurasian varieties, mainly including Beauty Finger, Hongluo Shaliao and Guifei Rose and the occident varieties, mainly including Jufeng, Red Fuji and Tengnie. In recent years, we have increased the investment of grape industry, built 1300 mou of shed for water preventing facilities and 300 mou facilitated by trickling and spraying irrigators. In the distribution of plantation area, Hangzhou bay river flat is the main area for plantation, and Linshan, Huang Jiabu, Xiao Caoe and Simen are main production area, among which the grape of Linshan town is very outstanding with 8000 mou of plantation area. In 2003, fragrant garden grape special cooperative and fragrant garden grape research institute was set up. In 2003, fragrant garden grape has passed the certification of Zhejiang provincial green agricultural product base and Zhejiang provincial green agricultural brand name product. In 2004, the product of the base was upgraded to national grade. In 2005, it was approved by Ningbo bureau of foreign experts affairs as introduction center of new verities of Ningbo Eurasian grape. And since 2005, during the period between Aug 7th and Sep 10th of every year, grape festival was held and tourists are welcomed to visit the plantation area and taste the grapes. |
